What is order of orange-nassau?

The Order of Orange-Nassau is a civil and military Dutch order of chivalry founded on April 4, 1892, by the Queen of the Netherlands, Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont, in honor of her late husband, King William III of the Netherlands. The order is named after the royal family’s ancestral lands of Orange and Nassau.

The Order of Orange-Nassau is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Dutch society and the Dutch monarchy, or who have supported Dutch interests abroad. The order is also open to foreign nationals who have made substantial contributions to the betterment of Dutch society.

The order has five grades: Knight Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight. The highest grade, Knight Grand Cross, is reserved for heads of state and other very high-ranking officials. Below that are Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight.

The order is recognized as the fourth-highest Dutch order, after the Military William Order, the Order of the Netherlands Lion, and the Order of the Golden Ark. The order is also considered to be one of the most prestigious honors in the Netherlands.
